You have landed on the undergraduate teacher certification program application page.

The College of Arts, Sciences and Education requires separate admission for all undergraduate teacher certification programs. 

Students apply to the program after completing a majority of their core/general education coursework, have taken the needed pre-requisites, and have the minimum GPA requirements. Students on a four-year timeline apply to program the second semester of their second year.

The Undergraduate Teacher Certification Program is a cohort model beginning every fall semester. Applications are not reviewed for summer or spring start. Applicants must have all items in by April 1st for admissions consideration.

Application process

The application below is for students pursuing certification at the undergraduate level. If you are interested in applying to the Master's in Teaching or Grow-Your-Own (GYO) program you will need to apply through the Office of Graduate Studies & Admissions.

The application deadline for the fall 2026 semester is Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

Program application

Admissions criteria for the Undergraduate Teacher Certification Program:

GPA: 

Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and must receive a grade of C or higher in the program pre-requisite courses (ED 204 Culture, Equity, and Education and ED 205 Learning and Development).

Exam requirements:

The state requires students in teacher preparation programs to complete a basic skills exam. This can be the WEST-B exam, SAT, ACT, or other approved alternative exam. To register for the WEST-B exam please .   

Pre-program observation: 

Having experience working with different aged youth is imperative to your success in the program. Students are required to have at least 10 hours of observation with children 6-12, at least 10 hours of observation with children 12-18, and at least 10 hours of observation in a K-12 school.

Pre-requisite courses:

Students must complete two pre-requisite courses prior to applying to the program. The two pre-requisites are ED 204: Culture, Equity, & Education and ED 205: Learning and Development. Students must receive a minimum grade of C or higher.

Recommendation questionnaire:

Two professional questionnaires will be required. Your recommenders will receive an email with the questionnaire link they need to complete once you submit the application.

Fingerprinting:

Fingerprinting must be completed at an Educational Services District (ESD) site. To learn more about fingerprinting please .

If you are a transfer student enrolling in 91直播鈥檚 for a spring start, you have the option to apply to the Undergraduate Teacher Certification Program for an early decision. To be considered for an early decision you must complete the application by November 15th. 

Application Reviews: 

Applications are reviewed by the Education Department Admissions Committee made up of faculty, staff and community members. Students may be called in for individual/group interviews to further discuss their application and potential goals for pursuing the program.
